Handara Golf & Resort Bali is a mountain
golf resort located near Bedugul with a world-class difference. The first golf
& country club resort to open in Bali was voted by Golf Magazine as 'One of
the 50 Greatest Golf Courses in the World.’ Course founder, Ibnu Sutowo
(1914-2001) named it after his youngest daughter, Handara. The Ibnu Sutowo
Senior Open is held at the course every year in memory of Ibnu’s remarkable
legacy.
What makes Handara Golf so unique is its location in the central highlands of
Bali, at an altitude of 1,142 meters above sea level, making it the coolest
golf course in Bali with temperatures ranging from 14 to 24 Celsius. Nestled
inside the crater of an extinct volcano, the views offer lush green mountains,
crater lakes, and equatorial rain forests. The abundance of natural beauty
creates scenic backdrops for a round at one of the best golf courses in Bali.
There is also a driving range, a practice pitching area, and two practice
putting greens to warm up before your game.
The 18-hole, par-72 championship Handara golf course was masterfully designed
by five time British Open champion Peter Thomson as well as Michael Wolveridge
and Ronald Fream. Visitors can enter the course through the stunning Balinese
Handara gate and are greeted by flame-of-the-forest trees. The trees are
distinguished by their fiery bright orange-red flowers. The second hole at
Handara Golf & Resort Bali is the first par-3 at the resort and arguably
the most difficult with bunkers on both the front left and right. Mount Lesung
is the incredible mountain you look towards once reaching hole 8. The earliest
known Bali temples can be explored by the shore of the crater lake at the
summit. You can trek up to the top of Lesung and spot the deer that inhabit the
mountain.
For nature lovers, there are many local attractions surrounding this Bali golf
course that can be explored and experienced in a few hours including the Bali
Treetop Adventure Park, trekking or strawberry picking. You can also explore
the Bali Botanical Gardens at Kebun Raya Eka Karya, play water sports on Lake
Bratan, or feed the mischievous Bedugul Monkeys.
